Cooperatives Development and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya has hinted at stepping down from his position should the government disregard his advice.
During a church service at Mariakani Church of God, Oparanya, who was recently inducted into President William Ruto’s cabinet, cited his achievements as the former Governor of Kakamega as the reason for his appointment. He emphasized his capability to assist the government in reaching its objectives. "Those who have been to Kakamega can see the work that I did there as governor; that is why the government sought me out because I am able to do the work. I will help them; however, if I tell them we should move in a certain direction and they ignore my counsel, I will leave and go back home," Oparanya declared.
The CS also stressed the need for unity within the Luhya community and applauded the creation of an inclusive government. In a separate event in Western Kenya, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula commended the integration of opposition members into the government, noting that it would promote national peace and cohesion.
